June is Busting Out All Over

Summer is here, and that means we get to spend long, warm nights with our family and friends outdoors. As temperatures rise, here are a few quick reminders on how you can keep your garden and yard looking great.

Flowers, Shrubs, and Trees

Deadhead fading flowers on annuals and perennials. This will help promote re-blooming. For roses, you want to deadhead any failed blooms back to shoots with at least five leaves.

Bring out your pruning shears. Don't let your shrubs get out of shape and out of control. Pruning these will need to be maintained throughout late spring and through the summer to maintain the desired shape. You'll also want to prune candles on dwarf pines and new growth on spruce to limit size around June 1st when the growth is still green.

Dig and divide tulips. You can replant these in the fall, or leave the bulbs where they are for next spring blooming.

Lawn Maintenance

Raise mower blades. As temperatures rise, your grass will be healthier if you keep it a little longer than you do in the spring.

Fertilize again, and check your watering schedule. Make sure that you're using short intervals and watering in the early morning and late at night. It will help you save on your water bill and help your grass stay lush and green.
